Strategy EUG

Quantitative serum β-hCG is only of value when combined with ultrasound examination

The higher the discriminatory level for β-hCG, the greater the sensitivity (percentage detected) for ectopic pregnancy

A prolonged doubling rate of serum β-hCG is diagnostic for ectopic pregnancy

Serial β-hCG measurements are used to monitor the response to methotrexate therapy

A complex adnexal mass seen combined with an empty uterus is highly suggestive of ectopic pregnancy

Free fluid in the pouch of Douglas may indicate tubal rupture
